PETG, or Polyethylene Terephthalate Glycol-modified, is a versatile and robust 3D printing filament that serves as the perfect middle ground between the ease of PLA and the high-strength durability of ABS. Known for its exceptional toughness and impact resistance, it is a “functional” material that provides excellent layer adhesion and minimal shrinkage, making it ideal for mechanical parts that need to withstand significant stress without snapping. Unlike PLA, PETG is chemically resistant and UV-stable, allowing it to perform reliably in outdoor environments or in contact with various oils and solvents. Its high heat resistance ensures that printed parts remain structurally sound up to approximately 75°C to 80°C, which is a critical upgrade for automotive or industrial components. While it is famous for its “sticky” nature during printing—which can lead to some stringing—it produces a characteristically glossy finish and offers a degree of flexibility that prevents the brittleness found in other plastics.
